Online game that teaches personal finance?
Main Post:
Generalized and then perhaps with missions that veer off into specialized tasks. Think something like Torn City (https://www.torn.com) but with actual personal finance skills instead of crime. Do any of these exist?
Top Comment: I like the idea of it. If there was just a simple game that could teach teens about budgeting, loans, interest rates and credit cards it would be useful.

Best games on a budget?
Main Post:
Hey all. New the this sub but I’m about to get a Switch and I’m looking for suggestions for games. I plan to get a copy of BotW but I’m hoping there are some decent titles out there that aren’t $60 a pop. I would say I’m definitely a fan of RPGs, not really into the fighting or racing style games. Puzzle games are cool too. I would love a sci-fi, space themed RPG but I haven’t seen many or I just overlooked them. Thanks for your help!
Edit: I should have also clarified that I won’t have internet access when I’m going to be doing most of the playing, so multiplayer games would be right out.

Best PlayStation for a person on a $500 budget.
Main Post:
I currently own a PlayStation 3, but I want to buy a newer console. My choice is either a Playstation 4 or a Playstation 5, but I can't decide which to buy. I have been saving up for a new PlayStation for about 2 years and want to make the best decision. I would like to know which console I should buy if I am on a $500 budget. I enjoy playing horror games and want to buy the best PlayStation for that. I can buy a cheap PlayStation 4 with a lot of games or a PlayStation 5 but hardly have any money to afford good games with it. Which one would all of you recommend and why?
Top Comment: Playstation 5. It can play almost the entire ps4 library with a few exceptions.

The Budget for 'A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' Was Less Than $10M Per Episode; HBO: "The battle sequences that the directors achieved match those across 'Game of Thrones' and are a fraction of the price"

Top Comment: Less dragons, less giant battles, more melees. Though I do remember them saying the Game of Thrones tournaments were prohibitively expensive so good for them if they figured out how to capture that with less money!
Just played the demo of Game Of Thrones: Kingsroad and...

it's so frustrating that all we have of GOT are trash mobile games.
The game itself is actually quite decent in many aspects, story seems good, the writing, tone, soundtrack, voice acting, character customization etc...
but it's all for a mobile p2w game. if you die, you have to pay currency, loot? have to pay currency, etc...
just wanted to rant a bit because i'm rewatching got and would pay an insane amount of money for like a "classic bioware" good got game.
Top Comment: Warband mods are the best GoT games out there.
Bloated video game budgets look like an entirely self inflicted issue
Main Post:
As much as devs and companies like to claim that games get more complicated and expensive to make, at the end of the day, it's you who set down costs. It's your decisions to spend 400 millions on a game, instead of 'just' 200 or 100. It's your decision to have a vast open world, it's your decision to have state of the art photorealistic graphics (and I love realistic graphics, but even then you can have a cheaper version of realistic that still looks good) and it's your decision to have a marketing budget that is as big as the development cost.
It's all in your hands, so don't come here to me crying that developing games is unsustainable, when it's entirely your decision to have such bloated budgets, all while AA games show you that you can provide a good experience for a lesser price.
Top Comment: Tech industry is in a downturn in general because it turns out that pursuing infinite growth year after year for the sake of improving stock value isn't sustainable.
The games industry is undergoing a 'generational change,' says Epic CEO Tim Sweeney: 'A lot of games are released with high budgets, and they're not selling'
Main Post:
Tim Sweeney apparently thinks big budget games fail because... They aren't social enough? I personally feel that this is BS, but what do you guys think? Is there a trend to support his comments?
Top Comment:
Because all that money isn't going towards making the best games they can make, plain and simple. They're just trying to scientifically concoct the most efficient money extraction machines, and that isn't very fun.
"We're not blessed with big marketing budgets," Xbox's EMEA marketing lead laments Microsoft's lack of investment

Top Comment: As absolutely insane as this sounds it’s probably completely true. In the EU there’s literally no Xbox marketing at all. In fact I can’t remember the last Xbox marketed thing I’ve seen. Probably Starfield but nothing outside of that for quite some time
